Remedy

Quarterly Therapy Scholarship prioritizing Black Women and the BIPOC population through 1:1 talk therapy.

The more we give, the more we save…

Sad Girls Club’s new therapy scholarship program Remedy is granting quarterly 1-on-1 talk therapy sessions to BIPOC women and men.

After launching Remedy in Fall 2022, we received over 900 applications for the program and were able to provide 120 hours of free therapy to 15 grantees—a true testament to this immediate need. This positive and warming response has uplifted us to raise our initial goal from 120 hours of free therapy to 1,000 hours, and from 15 grantees to 50. For every $25k raised, we’ll be able to support 10 members of our Remedy community with twice monthly sessions for one year.…in the Cost of Therapy Survey organized by Very Well Mind felt that therapy was a good investment. But even those whose care was covered in part by insurance reported concerns about continuing to afford it. Christine M. Crawford, M.D., MPH, Assistant Medical Director at NAMI says that being able to connect with a mental health professional who can embody the experiences of women of color can be really vital to getting help. But women of color have very few options when choosing a mental health provider of color. In fact, according to a data-point study published in 2020 by the American Psychological Association (APA), less than 5 percent of mental-health providers were Black. Asian providers made up about 4 percent, as did Hispanic providers. As the APA points out, the racial breakdown of providers does not reflect the makeup of the U.S., which poses a problem.

Remedy’s impact so far!

“I just want to start by saying thank you again to you and the entire team for even offering this support. I don't know where I'd be mentally and emotionally, if I hadn't gotten this scholarship and been able to continue this lifelong healing journey with my therapist.”

-Remedy grantee

“I think this is a great opportunity for those that may not have the resources and even for those who are intimidated by the idea of therapy. This gives the safe space for people to explore their options or even know that they have any”

- Remedy grantee

Sad Girls Club will be a catalyst for BIPOC women and men who can't afford talk therapy.
