Aries Season Insights

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
What the world needs now is love, sweet love / It's the only thing that there's just too little of
The Vernal Equinox here in the Northern Hemisphere signals that spring is sprung and a new astral year has begun! While the start of spring has traditionally marked a new year for many civilizations, it may not feel like there’s much cause for celebration given the current climate. The world seems crazier than usual. It seems like global catastrophes happen successively these days and it’s not unusual for people to casually joke about the world ending. Fire signs know all too well the beloved past-time of hiding their pain with loud laughs and dark humor; it seems to be the easiest way to deal with the fear that is associated with our civilization experiencing serious collective trauma. Unfortunately, the situation at hand is serious and there is no time for games.
To all of my friends who nervously laugh at the very rational fear that we are experiencing an apocalypse, I am pleased to tell you that we are! An apocalypse is an event involving destruction or damage on a catastrophic scale, so noting that it is “an” apocalypse is important. It gives us the agency to decide just what it is this apocalypse marks the end of. There have been endings since there have been beginnings, and that won’t stop with us here, now. At the precipice of this Great Unknown that we are bearing down, we must understand that this is a tabula rasa -- a blank slate-- for us to craft a new world that feels a lot more like the one we want to live in instead of the one we have been forced to live in. It is our responsibility to ourSelves and to each other to decide what that experience would be like for each of us. Will it be the end of our civil liberties and freedoms? Or will it finally mark the end of systemic oppression, exploitation, and injustice?
The Chart
What the world needs now is love, sweet love / No not just for some but for everyone
Many people across the world right now are being encouraged to stay in their homes due to the pandemic spread of the coronavirus. Not only are we giving great thought to how we cultivate space around us but also our relationships to things in those spaces. The Sun shares the sign of Aries with Chiron, Lilith, and Fortuna in II (the second house). II is ruled by Taurus, a sign that knows how to set the tone for any space. Venus rules Taurus, where it is stationed alongside Uranus as the Sun transits into Aries.
The Sun also sextiles both Saturn in its home sign of Capricorn and Uranus in Taurus, which emboldens it with lots of Big Planetary Energy. A gas giant is “a large planet of relatively low density consisting predominantly of hydrogen and helium, such as Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, or Neptune (Google).” When dealing with these planets, expect this energy to dominate as much as it can, anywhere it can. Neptune (at home in Pisces) also sextiles Venus, Mars (in Capricorn), and Jupiter (in Capricorn) here. There’s a lot of harmonious energy calling for us to align our everyday Selves more with our inner Selves. What is our fantasy? How can we make it more of a tangible reality?
Continuing with our sextile thread, Uranus (in Taurus) sextiles the North Node in Cancer, which is becoming more and more prominent a celestial player by the day! The North Node is not new to Cancer, having been there since 6 November 2018 but this intense pressure we are collectively feeling may seem like it is. The North Node in Cancer has been calling us towards more sensitivity, compassion, and vulnerability. For some, it may have felt like a cakewalk. For many others, it was excruciating. Still, many others are only starting to experience this emotional awakening for the first time (and some are still waiting to). We are being brought to a common pause as the social institutions that uphold this globalized structure bump up against Mother Nature, Father God, or whatever force of creation sets cataclysms in motion.
There is no divine mistake for this mounting as Aries season ambles in. We are supposed to be navel-gazing, looking within and taking account of our day-to-day -- how does it serve our larger picture. We are meant to evaluate and re-evaluate the ways in which we interact with our surroundings, our loved ones, our Lives. We are meant to be energized by how many possibilities for growth, opportunities for abundance, chances for transformation exist when we stop moving so fast and start being present and checking in. We are meant to remember our power so that we may learn how to harness it, using it in service to ourSelves, our communities, and our environments.
Enough
“There are cornfields and wheat fields enough to grow / There are sunbeams and moonbeams enough to shine / Oh listen, lord if you want to know / What the world needs now is love, sweet love”
Aries season marks spring -- a time of newness. Symbols of fertility abound, bunnies mating, pastel eggs hiding, and new life is on offer every first Sunday after the first Full Moon occurring on or after the vernal equinox. We are reminded of the infinite abundance and plentitude afforded us by the energetic reality of the known Universe. We know that there is more than enough food in the world to feed every belly and there’s enough water in the world that we shouldn’t have to wage wars about it. There are more empty houses in the United States of America than there are homeless people, but in the midst of a global health crisis, we still struggle with life or death issues of healthcare, hunger, poverty, and-- of course-- homelessness.
As the North Node in Cancer applies more pressure to those still rigid parts of our system that refuse to bend, we see what staunch dogmatism begets -- a system that breaks. It is with the utmost reverence for those who are most deeply impacted by the halt in the means of production that “sustain” our lives that I say, we have been through Hell and back more times than any of us can now remember. We can and will brave this storm together by allowing fluidity and transformation to bring in Healing and Alignment.
Poverty is the global pandemic that needs addressing and desperate circumstances like COVID-19 are only exacerbated by these seemingly smaller issues existing. It is time for us to take a look in the mirror of society and our hearts and decide if this is a world that we are comfortable living in any longer. The best that any of us can do right now is wash your hands; keep your distance; quarantine if ill; show up in service, support, respect, and most of all love for your neighbors; and remember, we are all in this together.
